For online mediations, we offer a range of options for our clients when it comes to video call applications. Where an individual has a smartphone or tablet device, video calls can take place by downloading a quick app or alternatively the video call can take place using a more traditional computer or laptop. Video calls can take place by the following methods: Zoom; Skype; Microsoft teams; Facebook messenger, Facetime or WhatsApp. As long as both parties have access to one of the above programs, we can facilitate an online mediation. Our preferred application is Zoom as this easily allows the sharing of documents and screen sharing.
If you would like to make a virtual mediation appointment through Zoom the mediator will email you an appointment slot which will include a link. You can click on the link when the meeting is due to take place and you will be joined into the meeting. It is not necessary to download the application initially but it is advisable to familiarise yourself with the program. Once all parties and the mediator have joined the meeting, you will be able to see and hear each other from your device.
Ensure you have the correct equipment e.g. computer, laptop or tablet with a camera and microphone. Ideally the use of headphones is recommended for clarity and also to limit the chance of the mediation being overheard. Check your volume settings.
Check you have appropriate internet connection – we will run an internet quality test with you prior to starting a joint mediation session.
Privacy – mediation is a confidential process. Please ensure the video call cannot be overheard by another person(s). There must be no one else in the room with you. You must not record the mediation session.
Screen display – be sure to position your screen in a way which ensures the other party and the mediator can see your face and that you are at eye level to your camera. Have a look behind you and check you are content for the other party and the mediator to see your background
Turn off Distractions – please turn off any other devices or switch to silent mode whilst conducting the session so that there are no distractions and you can fully concentrate on the discussions within the mediation session.
Comfort - Mediation sessions can last several hours and so its important at the outset that you are comfortable. Check seating, room temperature and available refreshments.
Paperwork - If you do need any paperwork or a pen and paper for the session, have this with you at the start of the meeting so you don’t need to break off and disrupt the flow of the session.
Dress code - There is no dress code in mediation as it is an informal process. However we would recommend dressing in a way that is appropriate and respectful to the other party and to the mediator.
Timings - It can be difficult to predict exactly how long a mediation session will take and so it’s a good idea to leave yourself some extra time in case it overruns. If you are limited for time it’s best to tell the mediator prior to the session rather than simply cutting the mediation short at the end. We would also recommend being at your device ready to start the session at least 10 minutes beforehand in case of any technical difficulties.
Communication is Key - With any effective mediation session, all participants and the mediator need the space to communicate. It can be more difficult to pick up on social cues online and/or there may be a slight time delay and so we recommend allowing for pauses between discussions to avoid the risk of everyone speaking over one and other which will hinder progress. The mediator may ask participants to mute themselves when listening to others.

When my autistic son was suspended from work, we felt he had been treated unfairly in the workplace because of his disability and needed help and advice from a specialist employment lawyer. Consilia Legal were highly recommended to me.
I dealt with both Marie and Vicky and I can honestly say they were both amazing. They were both very professional and caring.
Initially, I was worried that I would find speaking to a solicitor confusing and complicated but they simplified things so I was able to gain a better understanding of employment law.
Vicky then delt with my son’s case and I felt we built a very good relationship. She was so easy to talk to and I found her very approachable, which made me feel very comfortable.
Because of my son’s disability, our aim was to seek a quick and satisfactory resolution rather than a lengthy, damaging conflict. Vicky was always there to advise me on the best course of action to resolve the dispute as quickly as possible and to help us achieve a positive outcome (which we did).
Thank you Vicky for all your help.
Laura Clapton has been brilliant and very professional through the Mediation process. I highly recommend her.
Marie and her staff have been very helpful. Marie had assisted me previously with an employment law issues so I had no hesitation in engaging her again. She helped me through an unpleasant job related matter when I was at a low ebb and feeling unable to fight my own corner. As before Marie gave sound, straight forward advice and took over the handling of communication with my employer until the matter was resolved. When I had to take action myself Marie was always there to consult if I was worried about something. I would thoroughly recommend Consilia Legal to anyone.
I found Consilia on LinkedIn when having trouble with own ET. Victoria was my assigned solicitor and she was amazing. She guided me, lobbied on my behalf and gave me emotional support when I was feeling angry, upset or defeated. She gave me a metaphorical hand to hold and guided me through the bureaucracy.
I would highly recommend Consilia Legal. Their staff are professionals with compassion and understanding. I can honestly say, I would not be heading to ET without them.
Thank you so much!
Excellent service from Laura Clapton guiding me through a difficult divorce process. Super efficient, professional and carries out the work with understanding and compassion for your situation. Would highly recommend and have already recommended.
Andy Boyde was very helpful helping me sort out my employment issue.
I'd like to take the opportunity to say a big thank you to Andy Boyde for helping me with my employment issue. For someone who was in a difficult situation his knowledge and expertise helped guide me through the process. He always provided quick responses and was readily available to provide expert advice whenever I needed it. I was impressed with the knowledge and professionalism shown and would recommend him if you are ever in a complicated employment situation.
Marie and Matthew have been so professional through knowledge and understanding. Would recommend to anyone needing their expertise.
I recently had occasion to require the services of an employment lawyer and was recommended to this firm by a professional colleague. I have dealt with many lawyers around the world in the most complex business transactions and personally. I can honestly say I have never received the level of consideration and service from any other legal firm to match that of Consilia Legal. From the moment they picked up the phone to my initial call to the matter being finalised in record quick time; their service and attention to detail was never less than exemplary. Their legal advice was also spot on. It is extraordinary to see this level of service across every aspect of a business and it is a huge credit to Marie Walsh and her team (especially Emma Cartlidge) that they are all able to make their clients feel so welcome and so cared for. I would heartily recommend them to anyone.

I don't hope to have any legal issues in the future but if I do, these guys are first people I will call. Thank you Emma and Consilia.
Being in a situation where you require legal advice and action in an employment situation is never easy. However Victoria was absolutely fantastic. She didn't skip a beat, she made the law easy to understand around certain actions I could take, and she delivered all of the service in a truly personable yet professional manner. Being in a situation like that can feel so daunting, but having someone like Victoria by your side, you feel invincible.

If you need expert, pragmatic, timely employment law advice that you can trust then I highly recommend Marie Walsh and her team. When faced with a tricky issue full of 'shades of grey', Marie guided us through the process, step-by-step providing both an approach and letter templates. She was with us every step of the way, checking with us after every meeting, and discussing the next step. Alongside this, vitally for us, she understood our values and our commitment to not only complying with law, but also doing what's 'fair' and 'right' for all parties. Highly recommended.
